1L Resource Guide: Databases

This guide focuses on explaining access points within our library and the resources we offer to new law students.

Accessing Databases

This page details the various databases available to Pitt students, and specifically addresses the needs of law students and accessing legal material.

Below are links to specific databases, but if you're not sure where to start, PittCat is your best option.

Popular Law Databases

Westlaw vs. Lexis

These are the big two databases you will use throughout your academic and professional career: Westlaw and Lexis. You'll most likely favor one over the other, but it's important to get to know the basics of using both - you never know what law firm will have access to which.
